An Iranian minister has declared the country’s readiness for a ‘doomsday war’ against the United States, according to a report by the Russian state news agency TASS. The statement, attributed to Araghchi, marks a sharp escalation in rhetoric between the two adversaries.

Araghchi stressed that Iran’s ongoing enrichment of uranium to 60% purity is conducted exclusively for peaceful purposes. He asserted that this activity is fully consistent with Tehran’s obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

The comments come amid heightened tensions and stalled negotiations over the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA. The threat of a ‘doomsday war’ underscores the potential for a dangerous military confrontation should diplomatic efforts fail.
