US Strikes Iran’s Larak Island, Tehran Retaliates with Ballistic Missiles on Jordan Bases

US strike Iran — United States forces struck two rocket launch platforms on Iran’s Larak Island on Sunday, August 30, marking the first known US strike against Iran since late July. A US government representative confirmed the action, stating that members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard were observed preparing to launch rockets and deploy naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

Following the US strike, Iran announced it had retaliated by launching ballistic missiles targeting the American bases King Hussein and Al Azraq in Jordan. The Revolutionary Guard claimed that the Iranian missile attack resulted in multiple military and civilian casualties, and vowed to hold those responsible accountable, according to Iranian state media.

The US operation reportedly involved a drone strike on Larak Island, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim. This incident follows recent statements by US President Donald Trump, who had warned that any vessel used to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz would be destroyed. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime passage between Iran and Oman, is a critical route for global oil transport, with approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil consumption passing through it before recent conflicts.

The recent exchange represents a notable escalation in a conflict that has been ongoing for six months. Previous US and Israeli attacks on Iran, and subsequent Iranian offensives against Israel and Persian Gulf countries hosting American bases, have led to thousands of deaths and displaced millions. The conflict has also severely impacted maritime traffic, including the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
