US bombers UK base — The United States has withdrawn all its strategic bombers from RAF Fairford in England back to their home bases, a Pentagon spokesperson confirmed on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The move follows a security incident near the base that is being investigated by British counter-terrorism police. About a dozen B-1 bombers, used in operations against Iran, were redeployed.

British police arrested several men on September 27 after three vehicles were reported heading toward the airbase. The individuals were detained on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offenses before being released on bail. Police confirmed no explosive devices were found, though petrol was recovered.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated there are “strong indications” of Iranian involvement, a claim Tehran has firmly rejected. US officials have also pointed to possible foreign-state involvement. The Pentagon emphasized its bomber force remains capable of conducting missions from the continental United States.

The investigation continues, with UK officials considering all possible angles. RAF Fairford has long been a critical forward operating location for US strategic bombers.
