Major U.S. TV Networks Suspend White House Coverage in Protest of Trump Ban

Trump ban journalists — Five major U.S. television networks have suspended their joint White House coverage in protest of President Donald Trump’s decision to ban journalists from certain outlets. The networks—ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC—announced the move on September 21, 2026, calling it a response to Trump’s restriction of press access.

The action was triggered after Trump, via his Truth Social platform, banned reporters from CNN, the MS NOW network, and the Politico website from the White House, accusing them of spreading “fake news” without providing evidence. Over the weekend, journalists from CNN and MS NOW were physically barred and had their credentials seized.

In a joint statement, the networks declared that “no administration should restrict a news organization because it disagrees with its coverage.” The suspension of the press pool, which shares footage of presidential events, will immediately impact coverage, including of Trump’s upcoming bilateral meetings during the UN General Assembly sidelines.

Trump dismissed the boycott, telling reporters, “They say they boycott me, but they never boycott me. Look at all this press here,” after a meeting with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Meanwhile, the banned outlets have filed a lawsuit to overturn the ban.
