Burkina Faso Inaugurates TEXFORCES-BF Textile Complex for Local Cotton

Burkina Faso has inaugurated the TEXFORCES-BF textile industrial complex, marking a strategic step in its push for economic sovereignty and local transformation of its raw cotton. The facility was officially opened on September 9, 2026, by the country’s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, in Logofourousso, within the commune of Bobo-Dioulasso.

The complex, built in two years with an investment of 17 billion CFA francs, is designed to process domestic cotton into finished textiles. Industry Minister Serge Poda stated the project reflects a conviction that “a cotton-producing country should not continue to export its raw material primarily and then re-import, at high cost, textile products resulting from its transformation.”

The integrated facility includes spinning, weaving-knitting, dyeing-finishing, and garment production units. Its initial annual capacity targets up to 20 million meters of woven fabric, 5-6 million knitted units, and the production of 4-6 million outfits, 5.9 million T-shirts, and over a million pairs of socks. The long-term ambition is to process 50,000 tonnes of cotton annually and create around 20,000 direct jobs, with tens of thousands more in related sectors.

While initially aimed at supplying uniforms for the security forces, the complex will also produce civilian clothing. The government views the project as a cornerstone of an endogenous development model, aiming to “produce what the country can produce, transform what it produces, and consume more locally.”
