Pakistan Summons U.S. Envoy After Sergio Gor’s Jammu and Kashmir Comments

The Hindu

Sergio Gor Jammu and Kashmir — Pakistan has summoned the United States Chargé d’Affaires in Islamabad to formally protest remarks made by Sergio Gor regarding Jammu and Kashmir, a region disputed between Pakistan and India. The Pakistani government described Gor’s comments as an “irresponsible statement” that contradicts what it called the United States’ established position on the Kashmir dispute.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s foreign ministry, officials conveyed their concerns directly to the U.S. representative, emphasizing that Gor’s remarks undermine Washington’s long-standing and widely recognized stance on Jammu and Kashmir. The ministry did not specify the exact content of Gor’s statement but stressed that it was inconsistent with previous U.S. policy, which has generally called for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in line with international agreements.

The Jammu and Kashmir region has been a flashpoint between India and Pakistan for decades, with both countries claiming it in full but controlling only parts of the territory. The dispute has led to multiple wars and ongoing military tensions. Any shift in the position of major international actors like the United States is closely watched in both Islamabad and New Delhi.

Pakistan’s decision to summon the U.S. envoy signals heightened sensitivity to international commentary on Kashmir, especially from influential countries. The United States has not yet issued a public response to Pakistan’s protest over Gor’s remarks.
