South Korea, Japan Condemn Russia-North Korea Military Ties at UN Ukraine Debate

NK News

Russia-North Korea military ties — South Korea and Japan strongly criticized Russia and North Korea on Tuesday over alleged ballistic missile transfers and troop deployments related to the conflict in Ukraine. Speaking at a United Nations forum, Seoul’s Ambassador to the U.N., Jihoon Cha, urged Moscow to cease its “illicit military cooperation” with Pyongyang.

The condemnation came during a General Assembly debate focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine. Both Seoul and Tokyo voiced concerns that the deepening military relationship between Russia and North Korea is undermining international peace and security, particularly in the context of the war. The remarks underscore the growing international scrutiny of these bilateral ties.

The United States has previously accused North Korea of supplying Russia with artillery shells and missiles, which Pyongyang and Moscow have denied. However, recent intelligence assessments and observed military activities have fueled these allegations, leading to increased diplomatic pressure on both nations.
