Burkina Faso police — In 2016, the 45th promotion of Burkina Faso’s National Police began their training. Ten years later, on September 4 and 5, 2026, members of this cohort gathered in Ouagadougou to celebrate a decade of service under the theme: “Ten years of commitment to the nation: memory, introspection, and renewed oath.” The group, named Professionalism and Patriotic Commitment at baptism, has become a seasoned force, operating in one of the country’s most difficult security climates.

Service Forged in Crisis

Principal Police Commissioner Sié Ibrahim Ouattara emphasized that their mission remains guided by core values instilled during training: courage, discipline, and excellence. “Our name must not remain a mere memory of 2016. It must be our line of conduct,” he said. Representing the security minister, Emmanuel Zongo praised the cohort for rising to the challenge despite lacking a stable environment, noting they “learned while walking, in urgency and even in pain.” He described their decade as a testament to resilience and dedication.

The anniversary included a blood donation drive and a symbolic gesture: the promotion donated 7.5 tonnes of rice, 140 jerry cans of oil, soap, and detergent to families of fallen officers. “We celebrate because others fell for peace,” Ouattara said. Émile Kafando, representing godfather Edmond Tapsoba, urged the group to mentor new recruits, stressing that professionalism must be lived, not just remembered.
