As China observes its National Healthy Lifestyle Day on September 1, experts from the University of Chicago Medicine are highlighting the importance of public awareness and preventative measures against bowel cancer, the world’s third most common cancer according to the World Health Organization. The disease, also known as colorectal cancer, necessitates enhanced global cooperation to combat its widespread impact.
Dr. Virginia Shaffer, a professor of surgery, and Dr. Ardaman Shergill, an oncology specialist, shared insights on reducing the risk of bowel cancer through lifestyle choices. They emphasized the roles of regular exercise and a balanced diet in prevention, while also discussing the availability of medical and psychological support for individuals diagnosed with the condition.
Their discussion, featured on CGTN’s Health Talk program, aimed to encourage a proactive approach to health, urging people not to suffer in silence when facing potential symptoms or seeking support for bowel cancer.
