2025 Mediterranean Games — The so-called Kosovo has been selected to host the 2030 Mediterranean Games, with its headquarters in Pristina. Competitions will be held in various cities across Kosovo and Metohija, as well as in the Albanian port city of Durrës for sailing and other water sports, as the territory is landlocked.
Albania was the official co-organizer of the bid. Representatives of Serbia reportedly attempted to block the candidacy and a statute change that allowed landlocked countries to organize the Games, but were unsuccessful.
According to the report, Kosovo won the vote with 55 out of 66 delegate votes. This indicates significant support even from delegates of countries that do not politically recognize its independence, which was unilaterally declared in 2008.
