Vučić UN trip deal claims — Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is traveling to New York for the UN General Assembly, but a narrative circulating on social media claims his real mission is to offer Washington a political deal to prolong his hold on power. According to a post by the account “Bez Straha,” Vučić is allegedly presenting a package that includes the arrests of Kosovo Serb figure Milan Radoičić and businessman Zvonko Veselinović, sanctions against Russia, recognition of Kosovo, and the political undermining of Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik.
The post asserts that Vučić “can no longer find an interlocutor” because he has previously made similar promises that were not fulfilled, leading to a conclusion that “no one anywhere believes him anymore.” This contrasts with the official agenda from the presidential office, which lists a full schedule of bilateral meetings and a speech to the UN General Assembly. Vučić has also stated he will resign the presidency upon his return around September 25–26 to campaign as a regular citizen for the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25, where his Serbian Progressive Party has named him as its candidate for prime minister.
Meanwhile, U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson, a proponent of a bill that could sanction Vučić and his party’s leadership, accused the “co-opted security state” of already trying to rig the October elections through propaganda and state resource abuse. The simultaneous claims create a political paradox for Vučić’s visit: domestic critics accuse him of offering painful concessions to the U.S., while some American voices oppose any deal-making with him.
