Serbian opposition MPs — Two members of parliament from the People’s Movement of Serbia (NPS), Đorđe Stanković and Ana Jakovljević, have refused to be on their party’s electoral list for the upcoming snap parliamentary elections on October 25, 2026. According to the report, their refusal stems from a preference for either a unified opposition list or direct support for the student-led protest movement.
The decision came after internal party negotiations resulted in the NPS forming a coalition with the New Face of Serbia party, led by Miloš Parandilović, and the Ecological Uprising, led by Aleksandar Jovanović Ćuta. Stanković and Jakovljević had reportedly advocated for a broader opposition alliance and, failing that, a stance similar to the Movement of Free Citizens, which has backed the student list.
Similar defections are occurring elsewhere in the opposition. Several local committees of the New Face of Serbia have collectively left the party to support the student list. In a separate opposition bloc, a local official from the Serbia Centre party, Vesna Nedeljković, also resigned today, citing disagreement with her party’s decision to run jointly with the Party of Freedom and Justice.
