Houthis attack Saudi base — Yemen’s Houthi group claimed on Sunday it used drones and missiles to attack a Saudi Arabian military base, as renewed fighting with Yemeni government forces escalated. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the strike targeted weapons depots and command centers at the Sharurah base.
The claim follows intensified clashes. Yemeni government forces reported airstrikes against Houthi positions in the Taiz region and the Red Sea city of Mocha. The Houthis recently concluded an offensive securing control over Yemen’s Red Sea coast and strategic islands near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a critical chokepoint for Saudi oil exports.
The fighting has displaced tens of thousands and killed over 500 people, according to sources on both sides. A report by Axios stated Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman twice requested U.S. strikes against the Houthis last week, but President Donald Trump rejected the requests. Trump said the Houthis had also contacted the U.S., stating they “don’t want to fight with us.”
