North Korean WMD — The United States and South Korea agreed Thursday to establish a new system for sharing intelligence on North Korea’s weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The decision was announced following a meeting of the annual U.S.-ROK Combined WMD Countermeasures Committee.
The two allies discussed ways to strengthen their joint response to what they described as Pyongyang’s increasingly sophisticated nuclear, chemical and biological threats. The move formalizes and deepens cooperation on tracking and countering the development of these weapons.
This enhanced information-sharing framework represents a concrete step in tightening the alliance’s security posture amid ongoing concerns over North Korea’s advancing military capabilities.
